Jan Wheeler, outstanding educator, inspirational speaker, and advocate for pediatric hospice programs, personally understands the value of quality hospice care for children. Jan cared for her teenage daughter, Valerie Grace, at home, with the help of a pediatric hospice program in the Houston area.
Valerie, her parents, and pediatric hospice professionals worked together
to combat pain management problems, increase mobility, and help Valerie
achieve her goals to live as normal and active a teenage life as possible.
Living with the reality of dying is difficult for anyone, but the challenge
is tremendous for a child. Jan's message to communities is simple and
specific. She urges the public to develop special programs for children
with life-limiting illnesses and for the bereaved family members and
friends who are left behind.
Jan invites concerned individuals, service organizations, and businesses
to join the efforts of Project Joy and Hope for Texas through the gifts
of time, talent, and resources.
"In HOPE we are never disappointed."
